From Iraq 70 children to be treated

From Erbil in the Iraqi Kurdistan to Italy: 70 children seriously ill will come into Rome and Milan hospitals to be treated.

It is the Ematology Mediterranean Institute Foundation (IME) announcing it, highlighting that it is the first significant step of new civil cooperation between Italy and Iraq.

An itinerary which is going to go through Rome and Lazio Region hospitals: 6 children will be admitted to Policlinico di Tor Vergata, 4 to Policlinico Hospital, 2 to San Giovanni’s, 6 to San Camillo’s and 5 cardiopath children Bambino Gesu' Hospital

2 flights from Iraqi Kurdistan region will take children to our country and together with them 20 doctors will come: they will participate to specialization and updating courses.

IME highlights that the objective is to propose a “collaboration Italian model”, the same cooperation model carried on by Foundation. It is an approach to cooperation that in these years has allowed us to maintain concrete collaboration networks accessible to the main hospital in Baghdad and, simultaneously, to work for a health intervention in the Iraqi Kurdistan Autonomous Region.

A note highlights that IME was founded to face dramatic emergencies represented by thalassaemia and leukaemia in many countries starting from excellent results achieved in Italy. Now, it is widening its range of action and it aims at realizing new project to protect mothers and children health.

On the top of Foundation, Mr Franco Mandelli and Mr Guido Lucarelli are the Scientific Managers and Mr Ilja Gardi is Emergency Manager. Mr Gardi declares that this journey is a concrete proof of the considerable added value produced by a project built up as a “network”. In addition, thanks to cooperation with Meyer Hospital in Florence we managed to take an unexpected number of children affected by thalassaemia to Italy.

Of course, we wish that the relationship with this important structure and with all the region keep on growing.

IME conclude by saying that, together with flights from Erbil not only children needing special treatments will leave, but also a big cooperation project is going to start between 2 countries and 2 populations convinced that peace and living together should go through work and commitment in common.
