The Transplant Center in Cairo

Every year, thalassaemia, renowned as Mediterranean anaemia, hits 800.000 – 1.000.000 people.

An agreement with Hematology Department of the University of Cairo was signed, foreseeing the treatment of some Egyptian children and the teaching to physicians, nurses and technicians who will have to bring to Egypt the therapy of Prof. Guido Lucarelli, Manager of the Istituto Mediterraneo di Ematologia (Ime) (Mediterranean Institute of Hematology ) of Rome.

On the 8th May, Mr Lucarelli opened, together with the Italian diplomatic institutions and the highest academic and institutional Egyptian authorities, the Transplant Center in Cairo, where the professional teams, expert in the highly specialized technique of “Thalassaemia bone marrow transplant” of IME, will operate.
